Winter Classes

Sundays

  • Getting to Know Jesus

Instructor:  Linda Brewer

Time:  Sunday, 10:15-11:15 (starting Jan. 21) AM OR Wednesday, 6:30-7:30 PM (starting Jan. 17)

Class Duration:  5 weeks

Jesus asks all of us this question, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  I would like to invite you to journey with me to discover the answer to that question for yourself and learn who He says He is, who He says you are and what He sees when He looks at you.  We all know the stories about Jesus!  Now we have a chance to get to know Him!  Come and see how knowing Him can change everything!

There are no books to buy or fees for this course.  We will be using materials from the Bible, Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, Grace by Max Lucado, as well as excerpts from assorted books which will be provided.

  • My One Word

Instructor:   Cheryl Burns

Time:  Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM

Class Duration:  4 weeks (starting March 6)

Every year people make New Year’s resolutions in an attempt to better themselves. But how many of us are actually able to stick with it? For lasting change, we need to turn to the One who created us—the One knows how to unlock our potential.  In this four-session course, you will choose one thing—one word—to focus on for an entire year to enact lasting change. By picking one word—a word to represent what you hope he can transform—and focusing with the strength and clarity of your convictions, you will see lasting, sustainable growth through His power over the course of one year.

Tuesdays

  • The Quest

Instructor:   Kathy Glover

Time:  Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 PM

Class Duration:  6 weeks (start Feb. 6)

The crooked punctuation mark at the end of a sentence speaks of curiosity, interest, and perhaps doubt. A question is an invitation to vulnerability, to intimacy. The Bible does not shy away from such an invite. Over and over we see the people of God asking questions of their Creator. We also see the God of the universe asking questions of His creation.

The Quest is a challenge to accept the invitation. In this six-week excursion with Jesus, Beth Moore uses questions from Scripture to lead you into intimacy with the One who knows you best. Learn to dig into the Word, to respond to the questions of God, and to bring your questions before Him. Let the crooked punctuation mark be the map that points you into a closer relationship with the Father.

  • Learn to pray to promote intimacy with God.
  • Explore questions and responses from the Bible.
  • Track your quest by journaling along the way.
  • Learn to read and respond to Scripture.

Cost for the book is $15.

Instructors:  Byron Kimmel and Anton Woo

Time:  Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 PM

Class Duration:  12 weeks

How do I know Christianity is true?  Is God real?  Did Jesus really rise from the dead?  Is the Bible true?  Have you ever wrestled with these questions in your own mind or discussed them with friends or co-workers (or total strangers on Facebook?)?  How would you answer these questions?  What evidence is there to support Christianity?  In “The Shield”, we will look into these issues and other topics that seem to counter Christianity and see how the Bible and leading thinkers defend the faith.  This course will be an introduction to the study of Apologetics, or defense of the Christian faith.  Materials needed:  Bibles and materials for note-taking.
